What Is the Truth of Jesus Producing in You? | The Upside Week 6
In this message, Pastor Rodney continues The Upside series through the Sermon on the Mount and asks a challenging question: What is the truth of Jesus producing in me?
There is a difference between being impressed by the truth and being changed by it. We can hear the words of Jesus, agree with them, and even recognize how much someone else needs to hear them—without ever allowing those same words to examine and transform our own hearts.
Teaching from Matthew 7:1–12, Pastor Rodney explores Jesus’ words about judgment, discernment, prayer, dependence on our Heavenly Father, and the Golden Rule. Jesus warns us about becoming so focused on the “speck” in someone else’s eye that we fail to recognize the “plank” in our own. Rather than using truth to elevate ourselves above others, Jesus calls us to allow His truth to examine us first.
When we recognize how much grace and mercy we have received from God, it changes the way we see and treat the people around us. Instead of approaching others from a position of superiority, we can approach them with humility, compassion, discernment, and a desire for restoration.
Jesus also reminds us that we cannot produce the life of His Kingdom through our own strength. When we don’t know what to do, we can ask. When we cannot see the way forward, we can seek. When we encounter a door we cannot open, we can knock. Spiritual maturity isn't about becoming increasingly independent from God—it is about learning to trust our Heavenly Father more deeply.
And as we receive grace from the Father, that grace should flow through us to others.
Jesus tells us, “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” This is more than simply being nice or treating people well so they will return the favor. Kingdom people don't allow someone else's behavior to determine their character—the King does.
If you allow the truth of Jesus to examine your own heart, depend on your Heavenly Father for what you cannot produce yourself, and extend to others the grace you have received, it will help you live a life increasingly transformed into the image of Christ.
